Virtual and extended reality for innovation in teaching drama was a research project funded by the Community of Madrid, within the 2018 Check Innovation Program for Acting Studio Cinema Room, a study dedicated to the training of actors in Madrid. Leading this project were Juana Rubio- Romero, lead researcher of INNECOM, and director of the project; Amelia Meléndez Táboas, lead researcher of ETCC, and Mar Sampedro Mulero, researcher and drama teacher, in addition to other researchers of the INNECOM group who also collaborated. The main objective of this research was the counsel the aforementioned company on the available technology that is useful for the immediate and future expansion of its business. Acting Studio Cinema Room, after fifteen years of successful application of its Direct Method for Film in face-to-face actor training, wanted to learn about the possibilities that extended reality offered for an online teaching-learning process and/or support in face-to-face training. We are currently witnessing an acceleration in the adoption of technologies called extended reality (XR), which includes virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR), based on human-machine interaction through HMD devices (glasses and helmets). This expansion is part of that great 4.0 revolution that we are experiencing, and that is led by major technology brands such as Microsoft, Google, Apple, Facebook… The increasing pace of market release, competition and cost reduction of these devices allows small businesses in the region to contemplate future business developments supported by them; however, in order to make the decision whether it is worthwhile or not to commit to it, there must be valid and reliable information to rely on, and that has been the main focus of this research. The research project carried out had different stages of development: a review of the scientific literature related to technologies connected to Virtual and augmented reality at the service of innovation in drama teaching W e are currently witnessing an acceleration in the adoption of technologies called extended reality Nebrija Research
