Red ACELERA: Speech and BilingualismBasque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL)
El objetivo específico del grupo de Habla y Bilingüismo dirigido por la Dra. Clara Martín (y que incluye a tres investigadores postdoctorales y cinco estudiantes de doctorado) es investigar los mecanismos cognitivos y cerebrales de adquisición y procesamiento del lenguaje en individuos bilingües y multilingües, con un enfoque específico en la comprensión de oraciones, lectura, aprendizaje, y la percepción y producción de sonidos del habla. Recientemente, el grupo de investigación comenzó a desarrollar una nueva línea de investigación con el objetivo de avanzar en nuestra comprensión de la interacción entre la percepción del habla y la producción y la adquisición de alfabetización, especialmente en el caso del aprendizaje de un segundo idioma.
El grupo de Habla y Bilingüismo es uno de los diez grupos de investigación del BCBL, ubicado en el País Vasco (Donostia-San Sebastián), un entorno ideal para estudiar idiomas, especialmente el aprendizaje de segundas lenguas y acento extranjero, ya que ofrece acceso a hablantes con una amplia gama de perfiles lingüísticos (monolingües, bilingües tempranos y tardíos, que hablan euskera, español, francés e inglés). El BCBL está comprometido con la investigación, pero también con la educación y la transferencia de conocimientos mediante herramientas computarizadas que se pueden utilizar para la evaluación, el diagnóstico temprano y el tratamiento de los trastornos del lenguaje y el deterioro cognitivo, y nuevas tecnologías educativas para mejorar el proceso de aprendizaje de un nuevo idioma.

I am an Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL, Spain), leader of the ‘Speech and Bilingualism’ research group since 2014. After obtaining an undergraduate degree from the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) of Lyon, I did a Master and PhD in cognitive neuroscience. Then, I spent 6 years working as a post-doctoral fellow in two research teams highly recognized in the field of bilingualism research: Prof. Thierry (Bangor, UK) and Prof. Costa (UPF, Barcelona)’s teams. In 2012, I obtained the current position at the BCBL, being also awarded a five-year highly competitive fellowship from the Ikerbasque institution.
My current main lines of research focus on accented speech perception and on phonemic perception and production, with a specific focus on bilingualism. I am also exploring the incidence of reading on written/spoken words, which is the main topic of my recently awarded ERC Consolidator grant.
